Letter from Ian Walker Member for Mansfield, regarding ANZAC car Package Drive.
I am once again sending care packages of food and goods to our troops in Afghanistan in 2013 via my ANZAC Care Package Drive. With Remembrance Day fast approaching, the packages are a little something from home which let our servicemen and women know that we are thinking of them and appreciate the tough job they are doing on our behalf.
For those of you who weren’t involved last year, I collected donations of non-perishable food and goods which were assembled into post boxes during a mammoth working bee held at my Electorate Office, before being sent off to troops serving in Afghanistan. With the generous support of the Greater Mt Gravatt Mansfield Lions Club, Woolworths and lots of donations from community members, over 500 kilos of items made their way to overseas troops as a little reminder of home and a means of showing our appreciation for the work done by our troops.
I have scheduled this year’s working bee from 9am – 12pm on Saturday, 26th October at my Electorate Office and am now calling for volunteers to help assemble packages on the day and also for donations of items to go into the packages. below is a list of suggested contents which can be donated – it can be something a small as a bag of Minties, a lip balm, a pair of socks or a packet of chewing gum. Every little bit helps and even one small item can make a difference. I am hoping to have the packages delivered to the troops in time for Remembrance Day.
If you would like to help then thanks! You can contact my electorate office to register your interest. Similarly, if you can’t make it on the day but would like to donate an item, it can also be dropped off to my office.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on October 26th for a great event.
Regards
